Heavine ; the degree to which a body is drawn toward the earth by gravity. atomic w., the weight of an atom of a substance as compared with the weight of an atom of hydrogen, which is taken as 1. combining w., the relative weight, compared with that of hydrogen (which is considered as 1), of the amount of an element that enters into combination with other elements. molecular w., the weight of a molecule of a substance as compared with that of a hydrogen element.
