TEUTONIC

Knights were established as a Military Order at the end of the 12th century, in imitation of the Templars (q.v.) and Hospitallers. In the 13th century they acquired Poland and Pru ia, and long held sway over Central Europe. They declined in the 15th century; but lingered on as an Order Napoleon abolished them in 1809.
