Glycyrrhiza

(glis-ir-hi’zah) [Gr. γλυκύς sweet + Alfa root]. A genus of leguminous plants. The root of G. gla’bra (licorice-root) is demulcent, anti be chic. and laxative, and is used in laryngitis and bronchitis and as an ingredient in medicinal preparations. Dose of fluidextract, 1 fl.dr. (4 ¢.¢.); of syrup, ι fdr. (4 c.c.); of compound mixture. (brown mixture), 3-1 fl.oz. (15-30 ¢.c.); of compound powder, }-2 dr. (2 8 gm.).
