Congreve, WILLIAM

1670-1729. English dramatist. His most noted plays are The Mourning Bride, a tragedy, 1697, and two comedies, The Old Bachelor, 1691, and Love for Love, 1695. Another, Way of the World, 1697, though it failed, is by some considered his best.
