The account kept in the English exchequer containing the summaries and authoritative details of the national trea sury: also called the Great Roll. It was so named from its shape in the middle ages. The Pipe - Rolls are complete from the second year of Henry II., and the Chancellor's rolls nearly so. Stubbs , Const. Hist., § 126.
