[From A. S. st rica.] (Min.) The aspect that a mineral presents to the eye after scratching its surface with the point or edge of a knife. When the color exhibited by the scratched part differs in no wise from that of the rest, the S. is said to be simple; when it is of a different hue, di imilar. [s. 860]
