Menelaus

(men-e-la'ús.) (Heroic Hist.) A Greek hero, king of Sparta, and husband of the beautiful Helen, whose abduction by Paris occasioned the Trojan war. At the siege of Troy he behaved with distinguished gallantry, and, after the capture of that city, recovered and became reconciled to the woman who had wrought so much mischief. [s. 591]
