The melon thistles; a genus of the Cactece, tribe Echmocactece. The Melocactece (Fr., melocactees) and the Melocactoidea} are a division of the Cactece. The fruits are edible, and are used in pectoral complaints. The flesh of the stem is employed as an emollient, and the flowers are considered antisyphilitic.
