Reformed Church

(Eccl. Hist.) A conventional term employed to designate, not all the churches of the Reformation, but those in which the Calvin is tic doctrines, and still more the Calvin is tic policy prevail, in contradistinction to the Luther ans. The largest branches in the U. States are the Reformed Church in America (late Dutch), and the Reformed Church in the United States (late German Reformed). The largest branches in Europe are those of Holland (where there are two branches, one State church and one independent), of Hungary, of Switzerland(where this church has,however, in every canton an independent organization), and France. In Germany, a large portion of the R. C. has been absorbed by the United Evangelical C.R. EPISCOPAL C. Since 1873, a liberal offshoot of the Episcopal Church holding the same tenets. [s. 1]
