Gloze

n. [A. S. glesan, to flatter. See GLOSS.] To use specious and plausible words; to wheedle; to flatter; to fawn; to talk smoothly. -v. a. Gloz'er, n. A flatterer. Gloz'ing, n. Specious representation. Gluchov, ( gloo'hor ,) a town in the S.W. of Ru ia, prov. of Tchernigov, on the Ver book a, 112 m. E.N.E. of the town of Tchernigov. Lat. 51° 40′ 30′′ N., Lon. 34° 20′ 15" E. It has some trade in grain. In the vicinity, porcelain-clay of a very fine quality is obtained and sent N. to the imperial manufactory at St. Petersburg. G. was formerly the residence of the Co ack hetmans, and of the governors of Little Ru ia. tected in solutions of sugar thus adulterated, by adding a little solution of sulphate of copper and solution of potash, enough to form a deep blue. On gently heating, if G. be present, a red precipitate of suboxide of copper will be formed, while with pure cane-sugar it will not form, unle the liquid be boiled. It may also be detected by the specific gravity, and by the action of the solution on polarized light. G. forms with common salt a compound that readily crystallizes. G. is found in small quantites in animal bodies. In the disease called diabetes , it is found in large quantities in the urine.
