ANGEIOCARPI

(Lat.), n. m. pl. A?n(a8n?)-ji(ge?-i?)-o-kaSrp/i(e), 1. A cla of Fungi, made by Per so on, divided into the orders Sclerocarpi, Sarcocarp i, and Derma to carpi. De Candolle, who made it an order, included under it Puccinia, Æcidium, Mucor, Lycoperdon, Erysiphe, Sclerotium. Tuber, and other genera in which the organs of fructification are inclosed in a common envelope. Leman divided this order into the sections Derma to carpi, Epiphyti, Tri cho sperm i, and Sarcocarp i. 2. Of Fries (citing “ Schrad.”’), an order of lichens, corresponding to the Gasterothalami of the first author and to the Pyre no carpet ot Nylander, including those in which the apothecium is shut in above by an epithecium, so that the ostiole is reduced to a punctiform opening or a narrow pa age. It comprises the tribes Sphærophoreæ, Endocarpeæ, Verrucarieæ, and Limborieæ. [B, 121, 170, 213.]
