Bucktail (buktal)

A name originally given to the members of the Tammany Society in New York city, but about 1817-26 extended in its application to members of that faction of the Democratic-Republican party in the State which opposed De Witt Clinton. Better succe in constitutional reform was attained in New York, in spite of an ince ant turmoil between the Clinton i ans and the anti-Clinton i ans- Bucktails , or Tammany men, as they were called all of whom profe ed republican creed of the nation.
