(Lat. minutum.) The sixtieth part of an hour of time, and the sixtieth part of a degree of angular space. In modern astronomical works minutes of time are denoted by the initial letter ni, and minutes of space by the dash or acute accent, which was first used by Ptolemy. MiNCTE. In Architecture, the sixtieth part of the diameter of a column; by which subdivision architects measure the smaller parts of an order. [s. 767]
