Pascal, 1750—18209; nephew of above; keeper of the King’s Instruments. (3) H. Jos., Versailles, 1779—Paris, 1852; son of above; organist. (4) (Emile) Alex., Paris, 1853—1897; grandson of (3); barytone. (tow’-bér), (rightly Ernst Seiffert), b. Linz, Austria, May 16, 1892; tenor; studied at Hoch Cons., Frankfort, with Carl Beines; début as ‘‘Tamino”’ in “Magic Flute,’ Chemnitz, 1913; mem. Dresden Op., 1914-24; after latter year sang principally at Vienna Berlin State Ops., also in Paris, Salzburg, Munich, etc.; --n wide popularity in the light cLeras of Lehar, in whose “‘ Land of Smiles’ he later made London début; rst Amer. appearances in recitals, 1931.
