Hindu stan i Literature

There is an imposing array of authors from 1200 to the present time. These are divided between the Hindi and Urdu dialects. The series of writers is subdivided into the early period extending to 1570, the middle, to 1750, and the third, during which the Urdu dialect was developed, closing with the modern, in which both forms have | been employed. Many metrical ballads and heroic poems exist, constituting a vast literature, of which much is unpublished. The chief writers of the first period are Chand, Rāmānuja, Rāmānand, and Kabir.
