syllabic tune

A tune in which one note is allotted to one syllable of the words, and hence containing no slurs, as The Old Hundreth. In a syllabic manner; in syllables. syl-lăb-ic-al-lý, adv. [Eng. syllabical; -ly.] syl-lăb-i-cāte, v. t. [Eng. syllabe =a syllable; suff.- icate.] To form into syllables. syl-lab-i-ca-tion, s. [SYLLABICATE.] The act of forming syllables; the act or method of dividing words into syllables.
