Mercuric Sulphide

HgS. Prepared by pa ing hydrogen sulphide into a mercuric salt solution, when a black precipitate is formed, which yields a red sulphide on distillation, vermilion; the natural variety is red. It is soluble with difficulty in ordinary acids. See CINNABAR and VERMILION. Mercurous Bromide. HgBr. White needles, tastele , odorle , partially decomposed by sunlight; made by heating mercury and hydrobromic acid up to 100° C. Mercurous Chloramide. Hg, NHCl. Black compound, formed by treating calomel, HgCl, with ammonia. It is to be regarded as ammonium chloride, NH,Cl, in which two atoms of hydrogen have been replaced by two atoms of mercury. Mercurous Chlorate. HgClO,. Beautiful, long, rhombic prisms, obtained by di olving freshly precipitated mercurous oxide in an aqueous solution of chloric acid.
