Intonation

(-to-na's hun.) [From L. in, and tonus, a sound.] (Mus.) The art of sounding with the voice the notes of the scale or gamut, in succe ion, or at any intervals. Todo this succe fully, a good ear is almost indispensable; and the key, or, as it has been sometimes called, the tone, in which the composition is written, must be carefully observed. [s. 489]
