They stand between the Laniidæ, or Shrikes, and the Muscicapidæ, or Flycatchers. They chiefly inhabit the warmer regions. They are often very beautiful in their plumage. They feed on fruits and insects. The Ampelidæ may be divided into six subfamilies (1) Dicrurinæ, or Drongo Shrikes; (2) Camp epha ginæ, or Caterpillar-eaters; (3) Gym no der inæ, or Fruit Crows; (4) Ampelinæ, or True Chatterers; (5) Piprinse, or Manikins; and (6) Pachycephalinæ, or Thickheads.
