Generator

—A general aame given to a machine for the transfo mation of mechanical into electrical energy. The expre ion dynamo, is used to denote any electric generator, with the exception of the magneto. To distinguish the different types, the terms d. c. generator, a. c. generator or alternator, motor generator set, ete., are applied.
