Y.; 1910- 13 with Chicago Op.; sang in the prem iéres of ‘‘Grise lid is,’ ‘‘Monna Vanna” and ‘‘Pelléas et Mélisande.” Dugazon (dii-gi-z6n), Louise-Rosalie (née Lefévre), Berlin, 1753—Paris, 1821; untrained singer in light opera, so charming in both young and old réles as to give rise to the descriptive terms ‘‘Jeunes Dugazon,”’ ““Méres Dugazon.” Dug’gan, Jos. Francis, Dublin, July 10, 1817—London, 1900(?); opera-conductor and teacher in various cities in America, also Paris and London; c. succ. operas, ‘‘Pierre,’”’ and ‘‘ Léonie,” and 3 not produced; 2 symphonies, at the Cons. of Dubois, Mathias and Guiyaud; won prize in counterpoint, 1884, second Prix de Rome with cantata ‘‘Velleda’”’; spent a year in Rome, then a year~of military service; his overture ‘‘Polyeucte’’ was played by Lamoureux in 1892; his symphony, 1896, and elsewhere; ‘‘L’Apprenti-Sorcier”; 1900, piano sonata; 1906, Vullanelle for horn and piano; 1907, his opera ‘“‘Ariane et Barbe Bleue’? made a great stir and was played in Vienna, 1908,.Met...Op:,. NN. toppers, had edited texts of Rameau, ard c. for piano ‘‘Variations, Interlude et Final,’ on a theme of Rameau’s 1902; Prelude élégiaque on the name of Haydn, 1909; also a ballet ‘‘La Péri,” dance-poem in one act (Paris, Ig11), etc.; after 1909 he was prof. at the Paris Cons. Studies by Séré and Samazeuilh.
