Malplaquet

(mal'plah-ka,) a village of France, dept. Nord, 9 m. S. of Mous, memorable for the great battle fought, Sept. 11, 1709, bet. the allied English and German armies under Marl borough, and the French under Marshal Villars, in which the latter were defeated, the allies losing 18,000, and the French 15,000 men.
