Any cleft or groove, normal or other. abdominal f., a congenital slit in the abdominal wall. adoccipital f., a fi ure which sometimes cro es the caudal part of the precuncus and joins the occipital fi ure. Called also entolambdoid f. on’s f., a pear shaped aperture in the sclera at an early fetal period. amygdaline f., a cerebral fi ure near the extremity of the temporal lobe. anal f., a painful linear ulcer at the margin of the anus. ansate f., one of the small fi ures on the superior aspect of the anterior part of the brain. anterior median f., the fi ure in the middle line of the anterior surface of the spinal cord. ape-f’s, those fi ures in the human brain which are found also in apes. auricular f., a fi ure between the tympanic portion and the mastoid and squamous portions of the temporal bone, giving pa age to the auricular branch of the vagus nerve. basisylvian f., the part of the fi ure of Sylvius between the temporal lobe and the orbital surface of the frontal bone. f. of Bichat, a transverse fi ure between the fornix and the upper surface of the cerebellum. branchial f. See branchial deft, under cleft. Broca’s f., the fi ure that surrounds the third left frontal convolution. Burdach’s f., a fi ure between the lateral surface of the insula and the inner surface of the operculum. 9 f., the fi ure on the mesial surface of the occipital lobe which separates the cuncus from the lingual lobule. callosal f., the space between the dorsum of the callosum and the cortex overhanging it. callosomarginal f., a fi ure on the mesial surface of the frontal and parietal lobes, parallel to the callosum and (anteriorly) to the marginal convolution. central f., the fi ure of Rolando. choroid f., a fi ure formed by invagination of the optic vesicle and its stalk in the embryo, permitting the ingrowth of the mesoblast for the formation of the vitreous humor, etc. Clevenger’s f., the inferior occipital fi ure. collateral f., a fi ure on the mesal surface of the cerebrum, between the calcarine and sub collateral convolutions. craniofacial f., a vertical fi ure separating the mes ethmoid into two parts. dentate f. Same as hippocampal f. Ecker’s f.,a transverse fi ure on the dorsal surface of the occipital lobe of the brain, it being a part of the paroccipital fi ure. Called also transverse occipital jf. ectorhinal f., the fi ure which separates the rhinencephalon from the rest of the hemisphere. entolambdoid f. See adoccipital f. ent orbital f., a fi ure occasionally seen between the orbital and olfactory fi ures. ethmoid f., the superior meatus of the nares. exoccipital f. See Wernicke's f. fimbriodentate f., a fi ure between the dentate fascia and the corpus fimbria tum. glaserian f., an opening in the wall of the tympanic cavity, extending to the glenoid fo a and lodging the long proce of the malleus. at horizontal f., the rincipal horizontal ure of the cerebellum. enle’s f’s, spaces filled with connective ti ue between the muscular fibers of the heart. hippocampal f., the cerebral fi ure, extending from the splenium almost to the tip of the temporal lobe; it is collocated with the hippocampus major. inferofrontal f., a fi ure between the middle and inferior frontal convolutions of the brain. inter cerebral f., the fi ure separating the two hemispheres of the brain. interparietal f., a fi ure beginning near the ventral end of the central fi ure and Tunning between the parietal convolutions almost to the end of the occipital lobe. ile f. Same as intrugracile sulcus. intra pre cuneal f., a fi ure in the pre cuneal region of the brain, anterior to the cuneus. Jensen's f., a part of the intermedial fi ure near the sylvian fi ure. longitudinal f., the deep fi ure between the cerebral hemispheres. mandibular f's, the two lowest facial fi ures of the embryo. occipital f., a deep fi ure between the parietal and occipital lobes of the cerebrum. occipital f., anterior, the depre ion between the occipitotemporal and inferior sphenoid lobes. orbital f. ο- rior. Same as sphenomaxillary f. orbital f., superior. Same as sphenoid f. palpebral f., the slit or opening between the eyelids. Pansch’s f., a brain fi ure from the lower end of the central fi ure to near the end of the occipital lobe. para central f., a curved fi ure on the mesal surface of a cerebral hemisphere along the para- central convolution. parallel f. Same as super temporal f. etal f., the parietal rtion of the interparietal fi ure. paroccip- tal f., the posterior portion of the interparietal fi ure. petrotympanic f., the glaserian fi ure. portal f., the transverse fi ure of the liver. post central f., one of the sulci of the cere-. stclival f., one of the fi ures of the cerebellum. post gracile f.
