pl. [Mod. Lat. vell (a); Lat. fem. pl. adj. suff. -idæ.] Bot. A family of Orthoplocese, having the pouch with the valves convex and the di epiments broad. vellon (as věl-yôn), subst . [Sp., same word as billon . A kind of Spanish money of account. Also used like the English sterling . The reale de vellon is equal to about 5 cents.
