Y. and elsewhere; this after 1923 became Pro Music a, Inc., with branches in many cities, presenting eminent composers in concerts of their works. Schmul’Ier, Alexander, Mozyr, Ru ia, Dec. 5, 1880—Amsterdam, March 20, 1933; noted violinist; pupil of Sevcik, Hrimaly and Auer; took up res. in Berlin, 1908, where he taught at the Stern Cons. until r9r4, when he was called to the Amsterdam Cons.; he made many concert tours, incl. some with Max Reger. (shna’-bél), Naumburg, Silesia, 1842; (1) Jos. Ignaz, 1767—Breslau, 1831; conductor and composer. (2) Michael, Naumburg, 1775—Breslau, bro. above; Breslau (1814) a piano factory, carried on by his son (3) K. (1809— 1881) pianist and composer. (4) Artur, b. Lipnik, Carinthia, April 17, 1882; pianist; pupil of Leschetizky, 1888-97; played in leading Austrian and German cities; lived in Berlin, r901-33, where he was heard in many sonata recitals with Flesch; 1925-33, prof. at the Hochschule there; attracted a wide following for his Beethoven sonata programs, giving complete cycles of these piano works in London, Berlin and N. Y.; has played as soloist with leading orchs, in Europe and U. S., also prominent as a teacher; c. songs and piano music, also’ chamber works in ultramodern idiom; m. Therese Behr, contralto; ed. Beethoven piano sonatas. (5) Karl Ulrich, son of (4), b. 1909, pianist; pupil of Berlin Hochsch., studied with Leonid Kreutzer; after 1925 appeared widely in Eur. cities; first Amer. tour, 1936-7. ‘Schneega (shna’-giis) (Snegas’sius), Cyriak, Busleben, near Gotha, 1546—1507; theorist and composer. (shna’-foikht), Georg, b. Wiborg, Nov. 8, 1872; Finnish conductor and ’cellist; studied with Schréder, Klengel and Jacobs; lived in Helsingfors as teacher in the Cons.. 1894-99; cond. Kaim Orch., Munich; 1903-07; Kiev Orch., 1909-10; Riga Orch., r910-12; Helsingfors Symph., 1912-14; Stockholm Konsertférenigung Orch.. 1914-24, besides also leading summer concerts at Scheveningen, Holland; founded Oslo Philh.
