Ateliers Nationaux

Government workshops established in Paris in 1848 to provide work for the unemployed. Within the year the workers rose against the Government, and erected barricades in the streets of Paris. They were, however, promptly suppre ed by General Cavaignac, and their leaders arrested and condemned to transportation.
