pl. An instrument made of sheet-bra with steel points, and shaped like a pair of bow-legged compa es. The graduations show the diameters of shot and shell, the calibers of guns, linear inches, degrees of the circle, . gunner's-level, s . [GUNNER'S-PERPENDICULAR.] *gunner's-perpendicular, s. An instrument for ascertaining the highest points at the breach and muzzle of a piece of ordnance, when on uneven ground, in order to determine the true line of sight. [GUNNER'S-LEVEL.] *gunner's-quadrant, s. The gunner's quadrant is a graduated arc of 90°, or rather more, made of bra or wood, and having an arm attached, which is pa ed into the bore of the gun for the purpose of ascertaining the elevation. The wooden level has a leaden bullet suspended by a string, which indicates the perpendicular, the deviation from which is measured on the arc. of more elaborate construction, and has a spirit level attached.
