Knights, were a Crusading Order, established about 1118 A.D. for the protection of pilgrims in Palestine, and afterwards for the defence of the Holy Sepulchre. The knights wore a white cloak with a red eight-pointed (Maltese) cro on the left shoulder. Philip IV. of France ma acred the 54 chief knights in 1310, and his accomplice, Pope Clement V., abolished the order in 1312.
