(sin-té’-né), Abbate F or tuna to, Rome, 1778—1862; mus.-library. coll. a notable Sant‘ley, (1) Sir Chas., Liverpool, Feb. 28, 1834—Hove near London, Sept. 22, 1922; noted operatic and concert barytone; pupil Nava, Milan, Garcia, London; début, 1857; won pre-eminence in England at festivals, etc.; operatic début, Covent»Garden, 1859; 1875 with Carl Rosa Co.; 1871 and 1891, America; retired 1900; knighted 1907; also a painter; c. a ma with orch.; a berceuse for orch.; songs (pub. under the pseud. ‘Ralph Better ton”), etc. His wife, (2) Ger(Charles Kemble’s trude Kemble granddaughter) (d. 1882), was a soprano; their daughter (3) Edith was a succe ful soprano, till her mar triage in 1884 with the Hon. R. H. Lyttleton.
