notes are i ued in denominations of $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100, $500, $1,000. They are exchangeable for all kinds of money except gold certificates, but including gold coin, and are a full legal tender for the payment of debts except as otherwise expre ly stipulated in the contract. ~ Unit of value. The unit of value in the United States is the gold dollar of 25.8 grains, nine-tenths fine; that is nine tenths gold and one-tenth alloy; worth 100 cents.
