The following objects got damaged or » spoiled in the store-room viz*: Day-signals consisting of three balls etc. » broken; six hatch-, and three deck-cargo-tarpaulings torn; three deck- » awnings and about three hundred grain-bags damaged by water and » the capsizing of oil-tanks. » Sundries. The cowls of four ventilators; one pig-pen and platform » of accommodation-ladder, (stowed under forecastle-deck, when the col- » lision took place) broken. » Bridge-house. Four side-lights in bridge-sheer strake sprung. » Ropes. One seven inch manilla warp badly chafed; one ditto five inch, » cut; two cat-falls and a quantity of running gear chafed and/or parted. » Boats. A wooden boat-cover (said to have been) destroyed, or thrown » overboard by the crew, when the collision took place, and a start for the » boats was made. » Engine-room & Boiler-space. Sand and mud was found in main- » boilers also in shaft-tunnel, in stuffing-box etc. » Bottom & Rudder. Rose over tank-inlet, and two bra tap-bolts » in bottom-plating broken, some rivets in rudder started and the bottom » chafed and scratched. » The undersigned recommend, the seven broken frames and three » reversed-frames to be cut, some between the upper-, and lower-deck- » stringer-plates and the remainder between the latter and the lower turn » of bilge (as pointed out); renewed from where cut, upwards; the new » lengths to be connected to the original lower portions of the frames by •» properly fitted butt-straps (bosom-pieces); the three bent frames to be » straightened in place; the cracked frames and reversed-frames to be » strengthened by bosom-pieces. » All the before mentioned broken plates, viz‘: four covering the outside » of the forecastle-frames; one bulwark-plate; nine covering the main- » body frames; four in collision-bulkhead; two deck-plates; five stringer- » plates (including the angle-bars in connection with same); the broken » length of main-rail (including rail-angle-bar); the broken cargo-battens, » the destroyed forecastle-deck-planking; the broken side-lights; the lost x cast-iron bitt, rails and stanchions on forecastle-covering-board, broken » davit-socket, the parted davit-guys; the broken and/or chafed ropes; the » destroyed bunks, lockers, stoves, funnels and other fittings in crew- » space; the lost (wooden) boat-cover; the spoiled deck-awnings; the » broken platform of accommodation-ladder; the smashed pig-pen and » the broken rose over water-ballast-inlet to be replaced by new. » The broken beams to be cut (where indicated) and new ends to be » fitted; the broken fish-davit; the bent fish-shackle; the broken vent i- » lators; sluice-rod of collision-bulkhead and the damaged forecastle* ladders to be efficiently repaired. » The main-windla (shaken through the heavy shock of the collision) ■> to be overhauled, and repaired if required; the smashed carpenter’s-room » and water-closet, to be restored; the soiled grain-bags and damaged » tarpaulings to be cleaned, dried and repaired, where nece ary. » The propeller to be unshipped and the tail-shaft to be drawn in » for examination; the stern-tube and tunnel to be cleaned from sand; » the tunnel-shafting to be sighted; the crank-shafts to be stripped; the » condenser, air-pump, bilge-pumps, feed-pumps and circulating-pump to » be opened; valves, cocks and piping in connection with same to be » examined; the main-boilers to be cleaned from sand and mud and all » to be carefully inspected, and repaired if found nece ary. » The loose ceiling on top of double-bottom, limber-boards in N° 1 » hold; stoke-hold-gratings, etc. to be lifted; the limbers, to be cleared; » the bottom and the repaired parts to be cleaned and recoated, and all ».to be made good equal to what it was previous to the accident. » It should be observed that the before recommended repairs, neces- » sitate the taking up of the chain-cables, the removal (and afterwards » replacing) of the chain-lockers and a portion of the close ceiling in N° 1 » and N® 2 holds. » fee * (Signed) M.
