Autotype (Gk. autos, self; typos, lit. stamp), permanent print produced from a photographic as follows:—The paper on which it is is coated with a film of bichromatised in which lampblack is held in solution. negative being placed over it the light hardens parts of the film to which it is admitted; the parts are afterwards washed away, leava permanent print. The proce is better suited the reproduction of oil paintings than of engravor of etchings.
