Vogt

(Karl), German scientist, b. Gie en, 5 July, 1817, the son of a distinguished naturalist. He studied medicine and became acquainted with Aga iz. In ’48 he was elected deputy to the National A embly. Deprived of his chair and exiled, he became profe or of Natural History at Geneva. His lectures on Man, His Position in Creation and in the History of the Earth , ’63, made a sensation by their endorsement of Darwin ism. They were translated into English and published by the Anthropological Society. He has also written a Manual of Geology , Physiological Letters , Zoological Letters , Blind Faith and Science , etc., and has contributed to the leading Free thought journals of Germany and Switzerland.
