ALOESINIC

ACID, n. A?l-o-e%s-i2n/i#k. Fr., acide aloésinique. ALOE SOCOTRINA (Lat.), n. f, So-ko-tri(tre)’na’. Fr., aloés socotrin. Ger., Socotrinische Aloe. It., aloe socotrino (0 sucotrino). Sp., acibar sucotrino, dloes soccotrino. 1. See ALOE soc cot or in a, 2. A variety of aloes agers from the ports on the Red Sea and Fast African coast. It is derived from unknown varieties of the Aloe, It is of a yellowish-brown color, with a dull conchoidal fracture, and when breathed upon emits an agreeable saffron-like odor, pleasanter than that of the other varieties. Ether di olves from. to 5°5 per cent. of this variety. It formerly occurred in commerce in skins, but now is seen in kegs and tin-lined boxes.
