Modulus of Rupture
Chandler's Encyclopedia · 1898 · p. 61
Ultimate longitudinal unit-stre of a material deduced from the formula for the flexure of beams. It lies between the ultimate tensile and compre ive strengths of the material. If a beam of length 1, breadth b, and depth d be laid on two supports and broken by a load W at the middle, the modulus of rupture is R-3W1+2bd2, which is expre ed in pounds per sq. in. if W be in pounds and 1, b, and d be in inches. Modulus of Superficial Tension. See CAPILLARITY. Modulus of System of Logarithms. See LOGARITHMS. Modulus of Transformation. In transformation by linear substitution, determinant whose elements are the coefficient in the linear substitutes. Moe, JORGEN ENGEBRETSEN, 1813-1882. Norwegian poet, Bp. of Christians and 1875; a ociated with Asbjörnsen in compiling Norse Folk - tales , 1842-44, tr. 1859.
