[L. epos, The early epos of Greece is represented by the Iliad and the Ody ey, Hesiod and the Homeric hymns; also by some fragments of the "Cyclic" poets. Prof. Jebb . 2. In anc. pros., a dactylic hexameter.-3. In paleography, a series of words or letters, approximately of the length of a dactylic hexameter, anciently used as a line of normal size in writing manuscripts or estimating their length.
