Navy, born in Cumber land, Md., Feb. 11, 1840; graduated from the Naval Academy; entered the service as midshipman and reached the rank of commander; was a istant profe or of mathematics, and subsequently of anatomy, at the Naval Academy, and a istant to the superintendent (1878-82). Died Dec. 11, 1884. Greene, in low a , a post-town of Butler co., 33 m. N.W. of Cedar Falls, on B., C. R. & N. R.R.; has a sash and door factory, flour mill and an egg and butter packing establishment. Pop . (1897) about 1,200. Green'field, in low a , a post-village, cap. of Adair co., 20 m. N. of Creston, on C., B. & Q. R.R.; has a furniture factory. Pop . (1895) 1,244.
