Pupil at Leipzig of Mendel ohn, Hauptmann, and Plaidy, taught pf ana singing in London, lived at Torquay; orgt. Babbacombe," lectured at Royal Acad, after 1891 taught plain song at Royal Coll. Mus.; wrote Practical Harmony, lives of Handel, Mendel ohn, Jenny Lind, General History of Music History of Music for Young Students; History of the Boehm Flute; composed madrigal, 0 too cruel fair, sacred cantata; edited psalter, with accomp.
