Warp

(worp.) [From A. S. weorp. ] (Manuf.) In weaving, the threads of a piece of cloth which are extended lengthwise in the loom, and cro ed by the woof.(Naut.) On shipboard, a rope or tow-line employed in removing a ve el from one place to another.-(Agric.) Akind of silt deposited on lands subject to the inundations of rivers; the slime or mud it contains is sometimes of one or two inches in depth, and forms an excellent fertilizer.-Warped surface. (Geom.) A surface accruing from such a motion of a straight line that no two of its consecutive positions shall occupy the same plane. [s. 948]
