toluene

[Eng. tolu; -ene.] lene, dibenzyl, and anthracene. toluene-sulph amide, s. toluene sulpho-chloride, s. Chemistry: C2H2SO2Cl. Obtained by triturating toluene-sulphate of sodium with equal weight of phosphoric pent a chloride, and several times wash ing the product with water. It separates from ether in rhombic plates or large prisms, melts at 68°, and boils with decomposition at 250°. It is insoluble in water, but di olves in alcohol, ether, and benzine.
