[Greek myxa =mucus, slime, and pous (gen it. podos )=a foot.] Zool. ( pl .): According to Huxley, a division of the Protozoa (q. v.). [RHIZOPOD A.] "It will be convenient to distinguish those Protozoa which po e pseudopodia as Myxopods ." -Huxley : Anat. Invert . Animals , p. 76. mỹx-op-ô-dạ, s. pl. [MYXOPOD.] mỹx-ō-spồn-gi-æ, s. pl. [Gr. myxa =mucus, and sponggia =a sponge.] Zool.: An order of Spongise (q. v.), containing soft sponge in which the skeleton is absent. According to Huxley, it only contains the family Halisarcide, with the single genus Halisarca. Other authorities make it include also the family Chondrosiade.
