Lisette

Les Infidélités de Lisette and Les Gueux are the two songs which, in 1813, gained for Béranger admi ion to the “Caveau,” a club of Paris, established in 1729 and broken up in 1749, but reestablished in 1806 and finally closed in 1817. Les Infidélités supposes that Béranger loved Lisette, who bestowed her favors on sundry admirers; and Béranger, at each new proof of infidelity, “drowned his sorrow in the bowl.” Lizette, ma Lizette Tu m’as trompé toujours; Mais vive la grisette!
