Influenza

Epidemic affection, popularly termed grip or la grippe, in which there is inflammation of the air pa ages, causing running at the nose, cough, and all the symptoms of a cold, accompanied by severe pain in the head, back, muscles, etc., fever, and extreme weakne , which may last for weeks after subsidence of the acuter symptoms. Pneumonia and inflammatory affections of the eye or ear may accompany an attack. Restoration to health is slow; one attack does not preclude the occurrence of another; relapses are frequent, and in the feeble and at the extremes of life are dangerous. The disease is of recent introduction into the U.S., usually prevails during the damp weather of winter and spring, is slightly contagious, and is probably due to a micro-organism.
