Chain-cable-compressor

An implement variously formed, situated upon the deck, usually near a hawse-pipe, intended to check the rushing out of the chain-cables in case of any accident to the windla , also for the purpose of relieving a windla of some of the strain, when a ve el is riding. See Plate 65 D.
