[Sans.] The fourth caste in the old Hindu social system. It contained the laboring cla es. It has now split into a large number of distinct castes, perhaps a hundred existing in any ordinary locality. For instance, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, carpenters, ., are not merely distinct callings but distinct castes. [CASTE.] soô feě, s. [SOFI.] soô-ja, s [SOY.]
