[Eng. epistyl ( e ); -ar.] Arch.: Of or pertaining to an epistyle. epistylar-arcuation, s. Arch.: The system in which columns support arches instead of horizontal architraves and entablatures. ( Weale.) *ěp-1-style, *ěp-1-styl-1-ŭm, s. [Gr. epistylion , from epi =upon, and stylos =a column; Fr. épistyle .] Arch.: A term formerly used for what is now called the architrave (q. v.).
