A city of Macedonia. It was named after Philip II. of Macedon, who conquered it from Thrace. Here Antony and Oct avian us, in two battles, defeated the republican forces of Ca ius and Brutus, who both committed suicide, October, 42 B.C. ; this ended the republican government of Rome.
