pl. [Gr. a, priv., and σφυρήλατος ( sphure latos ) = wrought with the hammer; σφύρα = ( sphura ) = a hammer.] An old designation for metals deemed immalleable. Under it were included bismuth, antimony, cobalt, zinc, and mercury. as-phyx-i-a (Modern Latin ), as-phyx'-ў (Eng.), s. [In Fr. asphyxie; Mod.
