ACHROMATIC

An a, lens (one corrected for chromatic aberration) consists of a combination of lenses, of different material and shape (e. g., a double-convex lens of crown gla and a plano-concave lens of flint gla ), whereby, instead of the unequal refraction of the rays of various colors which either alone would produce, all the rays (forming white light) are brought to a single focus, so that the image of an object viewed through the lens is free from adventitious colors.
