PHILADELPHIA

Fr., sering at odorant, jasmin bdtard. Ger., gemeiner Pfeifenstrauch, falscher (oder Garten-, oder Bastard-) Jasmin. Mock-orange; a species indigenous to southern Europe. The leaves have the taste of cucumbers. The cream-colored flowers, Jtores phil a delph i (seu jasmin i alb i, seu syringes, albcE), have a jasmine-like odor, and were formerly used as a 'nerve tonic; they are now used in the preparation of a fragrant water.
